Campground pedestals are exposed to weather, heavy use, and years of wear. Every time an RV plugs into or disconnects from the pedestal, the electrical contacts experience a small amount of wear.

Although an EMS provides excellent protection, Todd explains that it should not be your only tool.

A multimeter allows you to verify voltage and confirm that the pedestal has been wired correctly before plugging in.

By measuring voltage between the appropriate terminals, RV owners can verify proper polarity and confirm that hot, neutral, and ground are functioning correctly.

Todd demonstrates how these measurements differ between 30 amp and 50 amp service while explaining what readings should be expected.
